LINKEVIČIUS: HITACHI LTD. IS IMPORTANT TO BILATERAL RELATIONS WITH JAPAN
At the meeting with the Executive Vice President of Hitachi Ltd. Koji Tanaka in Vilnius on July 18, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius stressed the need to properly assess the economic viability of the Visaginas nuclear power plant project as already agreed between the three Baltic States and Hitachi Ltd.
The Lithuanian Foreign Minister underlined that Lithuania was interested in economic and trade cooperation with Japan and thanked the Japanese company for the constructive cooperation. According to the Foreign Minister, involvement of Hitachi Ltd. in the new regional nuclear power plant project would give additional impetus to bilateral relations between Lithuania and Japan.
L. Linkevičius stressed that it was of vital importance for Lithuania to assess all alternatives to diversify energy sources and to ensure the most favourable price for consumers, because Lithuania was the most dependent on electricity imports in the European Union.
