Linkevičius expresses his condolences on the death of Helmut Kohl

On 21 June, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius expressed his condolences on the death of former Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Helmut Kohl. Linkevičius wished his family, relatives and all the people of Germany strength at the moment as they mourned the loss.

At the Embassy of Germany in Vilnius, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister signed a book of condolences. Linkevičius underlined Kohl’s instrumental role in ending the Cold War that had divided Europe and in Germany’s reunification. According to Linkevičius, Kohl will remain in our memory as a prominent politician and a strong advocate of European values and European integration.

“Lithuania appreciates Kohl’s role and efforts towards the establishment and development of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Germany, and Lithuania’s Euro-Atlantic integration,” wrote Linkevičius.

Kohl was the sixth Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, who served from 1982 to 1998. He died on 16 June, aged 87.
