Linkevičius emphasizes support for Georgia, thanks the United States for its leadership in strengthening security in the region
In the margins of the meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers on 14 May, head of Lithuania’s diplomacy Linas Linkevičius met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Tamar Beruchashvili and the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland.
Lithuania’s Foreign Minister and his Georgian counterpart discussed preparation for the Eastern Partnership Summit to be held in Riga next week. Linkevičius expressed Lithuania’s strong support for Georgia’s EU integration efforts and underlined the need to ensure a timely implementation of all reforms. Georgia’s Foreign Minister noted that the people of her country expected the Alliance to send a clear signal of membership perspective to Georgia.
The meeting with the U.S. representative Nuland focused on the situation in Ukraine, the implementation of the Minsk accords and NATO response to threats from the East. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked the United States for its leadership in deploying troops in Lithuania, participation in military exercises and Baltic Air Policing mission, contribution to the implementation of the Readiness Action Plan.
