Linkevičius congratulates Austria on its National Day

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz on the occasion of the Austrian National Day and wished his counterpart and all the people of Austria success and prosperity.

"I am delighted that our countries today are tied by a close friendship and dynamic relationships. I am confident that we will continue to strengthen our friendship that is based on shared values and may be further developed for the welfare of our two nations,” reads the Foreign Minister’s letter.

According to the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy, we are currently facing increasing challenges. In order to overcome them, Europe must demonstrate unity and solidarity. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister expressed his firm belief that Lithuania and Austria would apply these principles and work together to protect freedom, which the whole of Europe had enjoyed in recent decades.

The Austrian National Day is celebrated on 26 October to commemorate the adoption of a declaration of neutrality by the Austrian Parliament. Austria undertook a commitment not to join any military alliances or take any action involving the country into war. It was enacted in 1955 as part of the Constitution of Austria.
