Linkevičius bids farewell to Norway’s Ambassador

On 22 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the outgoing Ambassador of Norway to Lithuania Dag Malmer Halvorsen.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister thanked the Ambassador for strengthening bilateral relations between Lithuania and Norway. “Norway is an important and reliable partner of Lithuania, especially in the field of cooperation on energy security, regional security and defence, economics, etc. We aim to further strengthen our ties with the Nordic country that is close to us,” said Linkevičius.

Linkevičius thanked Norway for its contribution to strengthening security in the Baltic countries. Norway participated in NATO’s Baltic Air Policing mission in 2005, 2007 and 2015, and decided to help man the NATO enhanced forward presence battalion in Lithuania. Linkevičius stressed the importance of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) cooperation, in particular in finding solutions based on solidarity to regional energy issues, information security, hybrid threats, and the Eastern Partnership initiative. This year, Norway coordinates the Baltic-Nordic cooperation.

Norway is among the five largest investors in Lithuania. The trade turnover increased by almost 18 percent last year. Norway is an important partner of Lithuania in strengthening energy independence in the natural gas sector. Projects funded under the European Economic Area Mechanism and the Norwegian Financial Mechanism are being successfully implemented in our country.
