LINKEVIČIUS AND UKRAINE’S VICE PRIME MINISTER AGREE TO MORE ACTIVELY DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ABOUT THE EU TO UKRAINIAN PUBLIC

On 14 May in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Kostyantyn Gryshchenko. They emphasized the need to better inform Ukrainians about the EU, accelerating progress in converging with the European Union.

The interlocutors agreed that it was necessary to more actively disseminate information about the EU, its history, institutions and European values in Ukraine.

According to Linkevičius, the signing at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius this November of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement, including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area would be an important step for both the European Union and Ukraine.

The Foreign Minister presented Gryshchenko an illustrated journal in the Ukrainian language “Lithuania: making a successful choice” featuring articles by famous Lithuanian politicians, economists, persons in culture, and sportsmen on a multifaceted life and new developments in Lithuania after joining the EU in 2004. Lithuania’s Honorary Consul General in L’viv Vitaliy Antonov has contributed significantly to the publication of the journal.

In Vilnius, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine and other representatives from Lithuania, Germany and Belarus are taking part in the International Conference “The Spread of Magdeburg Rights throughout Europe: historical and present-day ties between cities”.
