Linkevičius: A unanimous response to aggressive information policy is necessary
On 16 June in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with participants of the first meeting for strategic communication experts from the Baltic states and Poland. According to Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, taking into account the scale of hostile disinformation targeting the region, it is now critically important to coordinate partners’ actions.
“Some countries disseminate false information, complying with the principle that the end justifies the means. When fighting against propaganda we must react quickly and our decisions must be guided by universally accepted values and rules. This is a difficult but still manageable task, we just need to make a joint effort,” said the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy.
In the meeting, the participants are discussing the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, analysing narratives which are directed against the statehood of the Baltic states and Poland, and discussing the most effective ways to disseminate information, which would unite all the countries.
The meeting for chief strategic communication officials from Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Poland was organised at the initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.
