LINAS LINKEVIČIUS: DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CAN IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EUROPEANS' LIFE
Today at the European Parliament plenary session debates in Strasbourg the Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius emphasized the importance of the Digital Agenda for encouraging the growth of the EU economy and the creation of jobs.
‘Digital technologies have the potential to provide Europeans with a better quality of life through, for example, better health care, safer transport, efficient energy distribution and consumption, new opportunities for the media – these are the areas that we all care about in which modern technology is irreplaceable,’ the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius said.
The minister noted that the digital agenda is one of the priority issues in the agenda of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU. One of the greatest events of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU is the European Scientific Research and Innovation Event ‘ICT 2013’ that will be held in Vilnius in November. At the event, experts and the creators of the strategy of digital agenda will discuss how to use science and technology and to encourage the competitiveness of the EU industry, its growth and innovation.
It is expected that the Conference ‘ICT 2013’, which is organized in collaboration with the European Commission and which will take place on 6-8 November in Vilnius, will be attended by approximately 4,000 specialists of information and communication technologies.
ICT 2013 is the biggest event of this kind in Europe, which was last held in Brussels in 2010. This year the event is dedicated for discussing the opportunities to increase the EU industry growth by the use of science and technology and to encourage productivity and innovation by the use of financial programmes, by modernizing public services and encouraging the advancement of science and technology.
