Linas Linkevičius congratulated the new UK Foreign Secretary

In his letter of 14 July 2016, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius congratulated UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Boris Johnson.

“I believe that Lithuania and the United Kingdom will continue deepening bilateral partnership in security and defence, trade and economy,” Linas Linkevičius writes.

Mr Minister says he is convinced that the Lithuanian community in the United Kingdom will contribute markedly to the development of the dialogue between the two countries.

In his congratulatory letter, Linas Linkevičius states that the UK is a significant ally in maintaining security and stability in the Baltic region as well as inside and outside Europe.

Mr Minister expresses hope that the United Kingdom will continue playing an important role in European affairs by promoting free trade, innovation, competiveness and growth, as well as leading on human rights, democracy and other areas.

Boris Johnson has been appointed UK Foreign Secretary as a result of reshuffling of the cabinet after Prime Minister David Cameron resigned.
