Landsbergis: "The European Court of Human Rights is the beating heart of [European] justice"
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, met with the new President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Mark Bošnjak (Slovenia), in Strasbourg, France.
"The European Court of Human Rights is the beating heart of [European] justice. Although there is no shortage of attempts to assess and apply international law decisions selectively, the influence of the ECHR's rulings is growing," said Landsbergis at the meeting.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy thanked the President of the ECHR and the entire Court for paying constant attention to Ukraine and ensuring Russia's accountability for international crimes.
The ECHR has also made important decisions for Lithuania; for example, it has acknowledged that the killing of Lithuanian partisans during the Soviet occupation was genocide.
Bošnjak took office as President of the ECHR on 2 July this year (elected in May).
