Landsbergis receives Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs award for his support to Ukraine and strengthening regional security

During his working visit to Tallinn, the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, was awarded the Estonian Foreign Ministry’s Cross of Merit for his support to Ukraine and strengthening regional security. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Margus Tsahkna, bestowed the award upon Landsbergis, thanking him for the work they did together, as well as his determination and persistence.

When accepting the award, Landsbergis took the opportunity to share his thoughts on the friendship between the two countries, shared values and the unifying goal of Ukraine’s victory.

“As free democracies, we need to support each other, stick to our principles, and show the world who we are and what we stand for. Our message has a much greater impact when we are united. In addition, our security is enhanced as we grow in our reputation as reliable partners in the fight for democracy,” Landsbergis said in Estonia.

According to the Foreign Minister, cooperation between our two countries, as well as reliable partners, are crucial to making our words even more powerful.

“As small countries, we cannot make use of big guns or influence processes through threats of force. Words are our strongest weapon, and the joint work of our, Lithuanian and Estonian diplomats and politicians has shown that the feather can be almost as influential as a sword,” Landsbergis said.

When thanking Estonian diplomats, the Minister assured that their country was one of the best allies in the fight for freedom. Landsbergis also added that, as an optimist, he sincerely believed that good always prevailed over evil.

At the bilateral meeting earlier, the Lithuanian and Estonian Ministers discussed security challenges facing the Baltic Sea region, cooperation in assisting Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression, strengthening transatlantic ties and cooperation with NATO partners.
