Landsbergis meets the Council of Europe leaders: 'Ukraine's victory will determine not only the future of European security but also the future of international organisations'
In Strasbourg, the head of Lithuania's diplomacy met with Alain Berset, Secretary General of the Council of Europe (CoE), and Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
"We greatly appreciate the continued attention of the PACE to Ukraine, as Ukraine's victory will determine the future of not only European security but also the future of international organisations. Our decisions will determine whether we maintain confidence in multilateral agreements or allow murderers to dictate the rules", the Foreign Minister stressed in Strasbourg.
The head of Lithuania's diplomacy also discussed with the leaders of the CoE Russia's accountability for the crimes committed against Ukraine.
"Many countries still expect Russia to change. To tell you the truth, Russia is still capable of changing, but only for the worse; by ignoring international agreements, Russia is redrawing national borders; it sends the critics of its regime behind bars even for the slightest criticism; it terrorises the world with its nuclear weapons without restraint. It is increasingly more difficult to explain why the Kremlin's henchmen travel around the world unrestrained and with impunity try to influence international decisions", Landsbergis said at the meetings.
During the meetings, the Foreign Minister also discussed the issue of Russian citizens working in the Secretariat of the CoE. On Lithuania's initiative, the new Human Resources strategy of the CoE includes a clause stating that citizens of the aggressor country should not work in the CoE.
