Landsbergis: “Lithuania’s energy expertise can be beneficial for the Philippines”
On April 24, in Manila, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, acquainted the Secretary of Energy of the Philippines, Raphael Lotilla, with Lithuania’s experience on the road to energy independence and offered cooperation in the development of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals.
“The terminal’s construction not only significantly increased Lithuania’s energy security but also gave us valuable expertise that we can share with the Philippines,” said Landsbergis.
The Foreign Minister also stressed that Lithuania increased its energy security by ensuring a reliable energy supply and independent energy infrastructure.
“We have built the necessary connections, we have started developing renewable energy projects, and we have diversified suppliers. Our success story can also be useful for the Philippines,” Landsbergis noted.
Lithuanian business has international experience in LNG import terminal projects in Brazil, Italy, Colombia, Croatia and Germany and seeks to participate in developing new projects and operation.
The Energy Efficiency & Conservation Roadmap 2023-2050, adopted by the Philippines last year, affirms the importance of LNG for the country’s energy security. The Philippines will build seven LNG terminals, the first two of which have already started operating.
In 2023, trade turnover between Lithuania and the Philippines amounted to EUR 24 million (10.5 % less than in 2022). Exports of services to the Philippines grew by 95 % in 2023, reaching EUR 10.3 million.
It is the first visit of the Lithuanian Foreign Minister to the Philippines.
