Landsbergis in Brussels: “We must trust Ukraine and create all the conditions for its victory”

On 29 August, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, attended an informal meeting of EU Foreign Affairs Ministers in Brussels with the presence of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, who informed his counterparts about the situation in Ukraine.

“We must trust Ukraine and create all the conditions for its victory, first and foremost, by delivering on all our promises. Delayed armaments, a ban on Ukrainian strikes on Russian territory, and ongoing trade with Russia undermine confidence in the European Union and the international community,” Landsbergis said at the meeting.

Foreign Ministers discussed the next steps following the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, which was held in Switzerland on 15-16 June, the EU’s military support for Ukraine and preparations for the United Nations (UN) General Assembly High-level Week to mobilize global partners’ support for Ukraine.

During the discussion on Georgia, the Foreign Minister expressed his expectations that the European Commission would carefully assess what was happening in the country that declared its EU membership aspirations, make proposals on how to curb the anti-democratic tendencies in the country and support Georgia’s civil society, which is defending its European future.

An Informal meeting of EU foreign ministers (Gymnich) is traditionally held every six months in the country holding the presidency of the Council of the European Union and was supposed to take place in Budapest, Hungary. However, following Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s indignant visits to Moscow and Beijing in July, the decision taken by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, is to hold an Informal Meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
