Landsbergis at the meeting with Zelensky: “The international community must finally commit to victory instead of expressing sympathy for Ukraine”
On 13 September, during a working visit to Kyiv, Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, together with his Polish counterpart Radosław Sikorski, met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
“Ukraine must under no circumstances be forced to negotiate with Russia, and only Ukraine itself can define the terms of peace in accordance with Ukraine’s Peace Formula. European security is inseparable from Ukraine’s victory over Russia. Otherwise, it will be a defeat for all of us, and the Kremlin, in turn, will start planning another attack – this time, most likely, on NATO,” Landsbergis stressed at the meeting.
Landsbergis underlined the necessity of seeking the lifting of restrictions on the use of Western weapons and speeding up the delivery of military support.
“We must continue to make maximum efforts to ensure that military support from Western partners reaches Ukraine as soon as possible, as well as to remove any restrictions on its use. Ukraine’s defence against the aggressor Russia is its fundamental right enshrined in the UN Charter. It cannot be limited by what weapons could be used and how far away from Ukraine’s borders,” said Landsbergis.
According to Landsbergis, the West must get rid of fear, which is a crucial element limiting Ukraine’s victory.
“The international community must finally commit to victory instead of expressing sympathy for Ukraine,” said Landsbergis.
The meeting also addressed Ukraine’s EU accession process.
“You have already made history – Ukraine has been invited to start talks despite what many critics had said. I believe that Ukraine is capable of successfully implementing the reforms necessary for its accession to the EU,” noted the Foreign Minister.
