Today, on 30 August, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Gabrielius Landsbergis, participated in the GLOBSEC security forum in the Czech capital, opened by Czech President Petr Pavel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

On the main stage of the forum, Landsbergis spoke at the forum session “Steps Towards Just Peace”, alongside the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Luminița-Teodora Odobescu, the Ambassador of the European Union to Ukraine, Katarína Mathernová, and Mariia Mezentseva, member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

“Ukraine’s victory must be our common goal if Russia’s aggression is to end. On both sides of the Atlantic, there are still voices calling the war against Ukraine a ‘regional conflict’. This is the biggest worry that we are not talking widely, openly, and publicly about the world vision that we are defending. This is what is at stake. If we want to convince ourselves that this is a regional conflict that can be completed with a ceasefire, it won’t. It is already affecting everybody globally, and if we are unable to reach Ukrainian victory, the world will be different. Now I could say that in the U.S., the EU and the Baltic states, we are sleepwalking into this new reality without the grand vision of what kind of world we want to live in,” said Landsbergis.

On the second day of the forum, the Foreign Minister will participate in a closed roundtable discussion on “Shifting Transatlantic Attitudes in an Election Year”.

During the visit, Landsbergis will also hold bilateral meetings with the Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský and Montenegrin Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević.

Launched two decades ago, the traditional GLOBSEC forum has become one of the foremost dialogue platforms in Central Europe for discussing strategic topics of foreign policy, economy and security.
