Landsbergis at a meeting with Annalena Baerbock: "The German Minister's personal commitment to strengthening Lithuania's and the region's security is an example of inspiring leadership"

On 30 September, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis is visiting Berlin at the personal invitation of Germany’s Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock.

"Germany’s and the Minister's personal commitment to strengthening Lithuania's and the region's security is an example of inspiring leadership. Her promise that Marijampolė will never suffer the fate of Mariupol has become the impetus for the deployment of the German Brigade in Lithuania," said Landsbergis after the meeting with his German counterpart.

Landsbergis also presented the strategic guidelines for Lithuania's relations with Germany to his German counterpart.

"These guidelines outline a new direction for our bilateral cooperation. New German businesses are setting up in Lithuania, and there are more and more signs of our strategic partnership," said the head of Lithuania's diplomacy.

The ministers also discussed the implications of Russia's war against Ukraine for European security.

"NATO’s Article 5 guarantees given to Ukraine would send the clearest message of deterrence to the aggressors," said Landsbergis.

This was the fifth bilateral meeting between Annalena Baerbock and Gabrielius Landsbergis. Germany is one of Lithuania's main trading partners and the largest foreign investor in Lithuania
