L.Linkevičius: Moldova is currently Eastern Partnership’s clear leader
Lithuania fully supports Moldova’s European integration aspirations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius said during his visit to Moldova on 25 February, where he met with the country’s leaders and opposition.
“Moldova is approaching towards the Association Agreement fast; creating the “success story” of the Eastern Partnership programme. The atmosphere of relations of this country and also of other Eastern partners with the EU will depend on the implementation by this country of reforms and visa-free regime,” L.Linkevičius said.
The head of the Lithuanian diplomacy is visiting Moldova together with Edgars Rinkēvičs, the Foreign Minister of Latvia. Latvia is organising the upcoming 4th Eastern Partnership Summit in 2015.
At the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius last November, Moldova initialled an Association Agreement with the EU. It includes the setting up of a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA). Moldova hopes to sign the agreement this year.
“I underlined that the signing of the Association Agreement was not the final goal. It is very important to properly prepare for the implementation of the agreement. Lithuania has already helped and will help Moldova, because the country has accumulated a lot of experience in different areas of European integration,” L.Linkevičius said.
