L.Linkevičius meets with France’s Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in Paris
On 5 May in Paris, the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy met with the French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who thanked Lithuania for its contribution to France’s Operation in the Central African Republic. The Spartan aircraft of the Lithuanian Air Force with a crew of ten has been deployed as part of the operation for the second month.
“We have also been praised for successful coordination of actions during Lithuania’s chairmanship of the United Nations Security Council. France supports Lithuania’s ambition to join the Eurozone next year, as well as to open accession discussions with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD),” the Lithuanian Foreign Minister said.
The meeting with the Secretary-General of the OECD Angel Gurría focused on Lithuania’s progress towards the opening of accession discussions.
“We have been active and made a notable effort to open accession discussions. A month ago we signed the financing agreement between Lithuania and the OECD, enabling the Organization’s experts to assess the Lithuanian governance and to make recommendations,” L.Linkevičius said.
According to the Secretary-General, Lithuania is successfully implementing the Action Plan, which was coordinated with the OECD Secretariat. A formal decision to open accession discussions with Lithuania will be taken during the OECD Ministerial Conference in 2015.
Today, the Lithuanian Foreign Minister will attend the Meeting of the OECD Council at Ministerial Level. Lithuania seeks to join the OECD and was invited to this high-level event for the first time.
