L.Linkevičius: cooperation with Sweden is Lithuania’s key priority

On 20 November in Vilnius, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius met with Speaker of the Swedish Parliament (Riksdag) Urban Ahlin and discussed bilateral and international policy issues.

“Cooperation with Sweden and other Nordic and Baltic countries is Lithuania’s key priority,” said L.Linkevičius.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister noted excellent bilateral relations and successful development of economic ties. Sweden ranks the first in terms of foreign investment in Lithuania.

The officials agreed about a need to continue to fully support Ukraine and to keep strong position towards Russia. L.Linkevičius stressed that Sweden was a very important partner in ensuring regional security.

“We are facing very similar threats, so we have to act in a coordinated manner,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.

L.Linkevičius expressed his satisfaction that the NordBalt project, which aims to connecting Lithuanian and Swedish power transmission systems, was being successfully implemented and the countries‘ markets will be integrated by early 2016.

The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy invited the Speaker of the Swedish Parliament to take part in the traditional Snow Meeting in Trakai early next year.

This is the first visit of U.Ahlin to Lithuania after the parliamentary elections in Sweden on 14 September 2014.
