L.Linkevičius attends NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting, discusses events in Ukraine and their impact on the Alliance’s priorities

On 1-2 April in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius is attending the NATO Foreign Ministers’ meeting to discuss events in Ukraine and their impact on NATO’s priorities.

NATO’s Foreign Ministers are also discussing possibilities for a more active and broader cooperation with Ukraine. The meeting also marks Georgia’s progress towards NATO membership.

One of the main objectives of the meeting is preparation for a NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government in Wales, the United Kingdom, on 4-5 September. The summit will look to the future in order to evaluate challenges and outline guidelines for activities.

The Foreign Ministers’ meeting marks the 10th anniversary of NATO’s enlargement. The Ministers will adopt a joint statement and welcome achievements of the Alliance’s open door policy in ensuring security and stability in Europe.

The meeting also discusses issues related to a future vision for ISAF’s Mission in Afghanistan, the Istanbul Cooperation Initiative and a decision to strengthen cooperation with NATO’s other partners.
