KUWAIT IS INVITED TO INVEST IN LITHUANIA
On 18 March, during the official visit to Kuwait, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas and Director General of the Kuwait Fund for Arab and Economic Development Abdulwahab Al-Bader discussed the possibilities of Kuwait Fund to contribute by crediting the construction of the road in Ghor Province, Afghanistan.
Lithuania, as a country leading the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Ghor, has taken up an initiative to encourage the Kuwait Fund for Arab and Economic Development to invest in the infrastructure project, which would provide an essential impact for the economic and social development of the province.
At the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry Minister P.Vaitiekūnas met with First Vice Chairman of the Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hilal Al-Mutairi and opened the Lithuania-Kuwait business seminar. In the opening speech, the head of Lithuanian diplomacy presented the businessmen of Kuwait and representatives from the Chamber, who participated abundantly, with Lithuania’s political and economic achievements, presented business and investment environment in Lithuania and invited the businessmen of Kuwait to invest actively in our country.
The Lithuanian business environment was more precisely presented by adviser to the president of the SEB Bank Gitanas Nausėda. After the seminar, bilateral meetings of businessmen from Lithuania and Kuwait were held.
During the working lunch with Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Mohammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, key attention was dedicated to the possibilities of development of bilateral economic relations with Kuwait, especially in the energy sector.
Ministers also discussed the relations of Lithuania and Kuwait with neighboring countries. P.Vaitiekūnas also presented the possibilities of investment into the infrastructure of Ghor Province in Afghanistan to Minister Mohammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, who is also Chairman of the Board of the Kuwait Fund for Arab and Economic Development.
On 19 March, Minister P.Vaitiekūnas met with Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Authority Bader M.Al-Sa'ad and with Acting Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al Sabah.
Minister P.Vaitiekūnas invited the Kuwait Investment Authority, which takes interest in the Eastern Europe and Asian regions, to invest in Lithuania. The representatives from the Kuwait Investment Authority presented the activity of the institution.
During the informal meeting with Acting Prime Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al Sabah, perspectives of the development of the economic relations were discussed. The Sheikh took interest in Lithuania’s relations with neighbouring countries, especially with Russia.
Minister P.Vaitiekūnas invited the Sheikh to visit Lithuania. Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al Sabah also conveyed his invitation to the Prime Minister of Lithuania Gediminas Kirkilas to visit Kuwait.
Among the Lithuanian businessmen, visiting in Kuwait together with the Minister, there were representatives from: UAB Garsų pasaulis, UAB Ergolain, UAB Traidenis, UAB Ūkio banko investicinė grupė and AB Žemaitijos pienas.
Due to the crisis in the Kuwait Government, the planned meetings of the Minister of Foreign Affairs with Kuwait Parliament Speaker and the Minister of Commerce and Industry were cancelled.
After the visit in Kuwait, Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs is paying an official visit to Romania.
