Kęstutis Budrys assumes office as Foreign Minister: Lithuania’s voice in the world will remain loud and clear
On 12 December, after taking the oath of office at the Seimas (Parliament), Kęstutis Budrys takes up position as Foreign Minister. The new head of Lithuania’s diplomacy will focus on strengthening both national and regional security, as well as fostering strategic partnerships abroad.
"Security is Lithuania’s top priority. We will focus our foreign policy and diplomatic tools on it. We will actively work with allies and partners to achieve stability and democracy in Europe and its neighbourhood. Lithuania’s voice in the world will remain loud and clear," said Budrys.
According to the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy, as the new Government takes office, it is important to send a clear message to Ukraine – Lithuania will continue to provide all possible assistance to the country fighting against the aggressor and mobilise allies and partners to maintain delivery of uninterrupted support to Ukraine.
Since 2022, Budrys has served as the Chief National Security Adviser to President Gitanas Nausėda, following his tenure as Deputy Director of the State Security Department. Previously, he also worked as the National Security Adviser to President Dalia Grybauskaitė.
Budrys earned a master’s degree in political science from the Institute of International Relations and Political Science at Vilnius University.
