JAPAN WILL FINANCE THE IMPLEMENTATION OF TWO PROJECTS IN THE PROVINCE OF GHOR

On 5 March, the Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan confirmed will finance two projects in the Chaghcharan Region that were recommended by the Lithuanian Special Mission in Afghanistan. The Japanese Embassy is to finance the projects from the financing program of the Japanese Government “Grant Assistance for Grassroots projects”.

In villages Qotaso and Akhta Khana, 36 water culverts will be built under the roads. The total value of the projects is estimated at more than 175.000 U.S. dollars. The projects will be implemented by Afghanistan's non-governmental organizations: “Civil Affairs Organization of Afghanistan” and “Afghan Development Organisation”.

A road without a culvertHead of Lithuania's special mission, Ambassador Dainius Junevičius was glad that Japan had been financing 20 projects in the Ghor Province, the total value of which was 1.77 million U.S. dollars. The Ambassador was also pleased that the projects that are being financed by Japan were clearly visible in the Province of Ghor.  The projects aim to improve the quality of life of the local people, to open the door to for education, health care and to facilitate communication.

Ambassador D.Junevičius indicated that the infrastructure projects to build roads and an airport were also necessary for the Province. The Ambassador thanked for the decision of Tokyo to send specialists of developmental cooperation to the province of Ghor, where they would cooperate with the Lithuanian experts.
