On 1 March at the Lithuanian Embassy in Rome, a solemn ceremony of presenting Lithuanian State awards to the meritorious citizens of the Italian Republic took place.
Lithuanian Foreign Minister Antanas Valionis who was on a visit in Italy presented Ostelio Remi, founder of the Institute of Italian Culture in Vilnius and its former head, with the Order of the Cross of the Knight For Merits to Lithuania for strengthening cultural relations between Lithuania and Italy.
The Institute of Italian Culture in Vilnius was established in 1999. It is the only such institute in the Baltic States. Ostelio Remi headed the institute in 1999-2002.
Antanas Valionis also awarded Lithuania’s Honorary Consul in Milan Guido Levera with the Cross of the Knight of the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas for fostering economic and cultural cooperation between Lithuania and Italy.
Guido Levera holds office of the Honorary Consul of Lithuania since 1998.
