On 3-4 December, international “Vilnius Conference”, which has become traditional, is held in Vilnius. The main topic of the conference is the promotion of democracy and freedom in the East of the EU and NATO.
This year the Conference is attended by the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe U.S. Congressman Alcee Hastings, members of Swedish and Latvian Parliaments, diplomats from Slovakia, Denmark, France, Belgium, Germany, Latvia, Sweden and Hungary, international relations experts from Poland, Slovakia, France and U.S., also officials from the European Union and NATO.
During the conference future U.S. and European countries cooperation with Ukraine, Moldova, Byelorussia and states of the South Caucasus will be discussed, the ways, how members of the EU and NATO could contribute to East European and South Caucasian states efforts to implement reforms, will be considered.
Vilnius Conference was held for the first time in 1997. This annual conference is the discussion of the strategic partners from both sides of Atlantic on the main issues of the foreign policy.
