International seminar on strengthening resilience to foreign information threats took place in Vilnius

On 5–6 October, an international seminar on resilience to foreign information threats took place in Vilnius. The training was organised by Lithuania and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and focused on strengthening the capability of the public sector in OECD member and partner states.

Darius Skusevičius, Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, opened the event and emphasised that the manipulation of information is becoming a tool used by authoritarian regimes to influence societies. Therefore, Lithuania and the OECD aims to promote the sharing of experience on how to help societies recognise foreign information threats and respond to them effectively at an international level.

The two-day event examined how states can strengthen their institutional structures and coordination mechanisms, how technological developments are affecting the information environment, and how governments can adapt public policy to these changes to maintain transparency and public trust in democratic processes.

The seminar was attended by senior civil servants and experts from 18 countries – Europe, Africa, North and South America, Southeast Asia. The participants shared their experience, while representatives of Lithuanian institutions presented the Lithuanian crisis management model, national policy measures and cooperation with non-governmental partners.

This is the fourth OECD international seminar on strengthening resilience to foreign information threats to be held in Lithuania.

The OECD Hub on Information Integrity, in which Lithuania is actively involved, contributed to the organisation of this event.
