INTERNATIONAL DRUG CONTROL MEASURES WERE DISCUSSED IN LITHUANIA

On 21 November Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Oskaras Jusys met the member of the International Narcotics Control Board Gilberto Gerra and discussed the main problems of drug control in Lithuania, and the importance of active participation of the civic society in drug prevention.

The participants of the meeting underlined important role of international cooperation in drug control and prevention for harnessing illegal transit of drug precursors.

On 21-23 November members of the International Narcotics Control Board also meet the members of the Seimas of Lithuania, representatives of the Ministries of Health, Justice, Education and Science, officers of Narcotics Control Department, Police Department, Border Guard Service, Customs Department, representatives of non-governmental organizations.

The aim of the Board members’ visit is to evaluate achievements of the state and name the main problems in the fields of drug control and prevention of drug abuse. The information gathered will be used for reporting on the situation in Lithuania and making recommendations.
