INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ‘THE EUROPEAN UNION ENLARGEMENT AND SECURITY OF ENERGY SUPPLY’ IS HELD IN VILNIUS
On 10-11 May, international conference ‘The European Union Enlargement and Security of Energy Supply’ is held at Reval Hotel Lietuva, Vilnius.
At the conference the issues of the EU enlargement and Neighbourhood Policy potential contribution to the strengthening of the EU energy security, the energy cooperation between the Baltic and the Black Sea regions, the EU energy supply provision diversification possibilities are discussed.
The EU Department Director of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vidmantas Purlys indicated in his speech at the conference that creating the European Energy Policy the EU could enhance the cooperation with the neighbour countries in the area of energy in order to create an energy community based on clear and transparent rules. The Energy cooperation should also become an important part of the EU, Black Sea and Central Asia strategies seeking to diversify the energy supply routes to the EU.
Minister of Economy of the Republic of Lithuania Vytas Navickas opened the International conference, other speakers are: Vice-minister of Economy Vytautas Naudužas, Director of the EU-Russia Center (EURC) in Brussels Fraser Cameron, Ambassador of Turkey to Lithuania Oguz Ozge, Member of the European Parliament Justas Paleckis and other participants of the conference from Lithuania and foreign countries.
The conference is organized by a nongovernmental organization ‘New European Initiative’ together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Oxford Institute for Statecraft and Governance.
Conference participants come from nine European countries: the United Kingdom, Germany, Latvia, Poland, Ukraine and other.
