INDIAN BUSINESS DELEGATION IS COMING TO LITHUANIA

On 19-21 January, a group of Indian entrepreneurs from various sectors of economic activity will be paying a visit to Lithuania.

Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy in India prepared the visit in cooperation with other state institutions and associated businesses structures.

The Indian delegation will have a possibility to get acquainted with Lithuania’s general business environment, investment incentives and to establish personal contacts with potential Lithuanian partners in those economic sectors that interest them.

The visit of the Indian business delegation will begin with the working session “Economic Cooperation between Lithuania and India” at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19 January.

The guests will be welcomed by Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, Chairman of the Group for Interparliamentary Relations with India Republic Dangutė Mikutienė and India’s Ambassador to Lithuania Deepak Vohra.

During this session, head of India’s business delegation Ernest Sharon will present possibilities of India’s market and Managing Director of the public organization “Invest Lithuania” Mantas Nocius will acquaint the delegation with the Lithuanian business environment and the opportunities that open up for foreign investors. Executive Director of the Association “Investors’ Forum” Rūta Skyrienė will share her experience in investing activities.

Indians are interested in the sectors of the Lithuanian air transportation, information technologies, textile, pharmaceutical industry and in investment opportunities.

On 20 January, the delegation will have a trip to the Kaunas Free Economic Zone (FEZ), where potential investors from India will be acquainted with benefits of the development of economic activity in the zone. Representatives from Kaunas Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Crafts will also attend the meeting with the Indian business delegation in the Kaunas FEZ.

In January-November 2010, Lithuania’s exports to India totaled to EUR 107.85 million and, compared with the same period in 2009, increased by almost 60 percent. During this period, the trade balance with India was positive and reached EUR 87.58 million. Even though in recent years India has become quite an active investor in the world, according to direct investments in Lithuania the country is not among the top fifty countries. On 30 September 2010, India’s direct foreign investments in Lithuania amounted to EUR 0.46 million.
