IN VILNIUS, REPRESENTATIVES FROM THE FOREIGN MINISTRIES OF LITHUANIA AND FINLAND HELD CONSULTATIONS ON ISSUES OF EU, SECURITY POLICY AND RELATIONS WITH NEIGHBOURS

On 4 May in Vilnius, Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Evaldas Ignatavičius and Under-Secretary of State of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland Jaakko Laajava discussed current issues of the European Union, the vision of the European security architecture and relations with neighboring countries.

During the meeting, the diplomats of both countries presented their positions on the promotion of relations with Russia and discussed the situation in Belarus.

Vice-Minister E.Ignatavičius thanked J.Laajava for Finland’s financial support to the Vilnius-based Belarusian European Humanities University (EHU) and emphasized the importance of this higher education institution.

The Vice-Minister underlined that Lithuania maintained very close and friendly relations with Finland.

“Lithuania and Finland’s attitudes towards many foreign policy objectives are the same, therefore, we would aim to advance economic relations and the political dialogue between the two countries even more,” Vice-Minister E.Ignatavičius said.

The Vice-Minister and J.Laajava also discussed bilateral and regional cooperation in the Baltic Sea region, energy issues and perspectives.

The Vice-Minister stressed that Lithuania attached great importance to relations with Baltic and Nordic countries, acquainted J.Laajava with events marking the 20th anniversary of the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries this year.
