IN VILNIUS, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER MET WITH THE CHAIRMAN OF THE EUROPEAN UNION MILITARY COMMITTEE

On 3 July in Vilnius, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Andrius Krivas and the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee (EUMC) General Patrick de Rousiers discussed highlights of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy of Lithuania’s EU Presidency, as well as preparations for the European Council meeting on security and defence to be held in December this year.

The officials dedicated a lot of attention to cooperation with the Eastern Partnership countries, energy security, and promotion of cooperation between the EU and NATO.

According to the guest, the Lithuanian Presidency’s aims are significant for the EU Common Security and Defence Policy development, and will be discussed during the meeting of heads of state or government of the EU member states at the end of 2013.

During his trip to Lithuania, the General also delivered a speech at a high-level international seminar on Eastern Partnership, visited the Ministry of National Defence and met with the Chief of Defence of Lithuania, as well as with members of the Committee on National Security and Defence of the Seimas (Parliament).
