IN VILNIUS, LITHUANIAN AND ROMANIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSS IMPORTANT EU, ENERGY SECURITY, AND NATO ISSUES

On 9 January in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlăţean to discuss bilateral cooperation, the EU agenda, energy security, and NATO issues.

The Romanian Foreign Minister hailed Lithuania’s EU Council Presidency, which has recently ended, and proposed to continue to actively coordinate the countries’ positions on priority items on the European agenda, and other issues of common interest.

When discussing future plans, the head of the Lithuanian diplomacy focused on relations with EU eastern neighbours, priorities for Lithuania’s membership of the UN Security Council, and the advancement of bilateral trade and political relations between Lithuania and Romania.

L.Linkevičius invited Romania to participate in the high-speed container train project “Viking” and to join activities of NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence.

The Romanian Foreign Minister T.Corlăţean arrived in Lithuania to participate in the traditional informal Snow Meeting to be held in Trakai.
