IN VILNIUS, LITHUANIAN AND JAPANESE FOREIGN VICE-MINISTERS DISCUSS POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC COOPERATION
On 30 April, the Lithuanian Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Neris Germanas met with Japan’s Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Masaji Matsuyama to discuss the political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Japan.
Germanas noted that the political and economic cooperation between Lithuania and Japan was fruitful and intensive. Lithuania supports the launch of the negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the EU and Japan on 25 March 2013.
When presenting the priorities of Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council, Germanas noted that Lithuania would seek to further develop the European single market, strengthen the financial stability, improve the protection of the EU’s external borders, and make efforts in addressing issues related to the Eastern Partnership and the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region.
Germanas and his Japanese counterpart discussed Lithuania’s aspiration to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD). This organization The OECD brings together the most developed countries in the world.
The meeting also discussed issues related to the East Asian regional security and North Korea.
