IN VILNIUS, FOREIGN MINISTERS OF LITHUANIA AND MOLDOVA DISCUSS RESULTS OF THE RENEWED NEGOTIATIONS ON THE TRANSDNIESTRIAN SETTLEMENT

The OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Audronius Ažubalis and Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova Iurie Leancă discussed the results of the renewed official 5+2 negotiations on the Transdniestrian settlement, which concluded in Vilnius on 1 December.

The meeting was held during the 18th OSCE Ministerial Council session on 6 December in Vilnius.

A.Ažubalis noted that the discussion of principles and procedures for the conduct of the negotiations, which took place in a constructive atmosphere, laid solid ground for the future work on promoting the conflict resolution.

I.Leancă thanked Lithuania for its efforts to renew the negotiations on the Transdniestrian settlement. According to him, the progress that was achieved on 1 December allows us to expect positive results in the advancement of conflict resolution. 

The Ministers also briefly discussed the domestic situation in Moldova, successful cooperation between the EU and this country, and the implementation of the European Agenda for Integration. The conversation emphasized steps taken to conclude the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the EU, and to waive visas.
