IN VIENNA OSCE REPRESENTATIVES WILL REVIEW CHANGES IN SECURITY FROM THE ATLANTIC TO ASIA
On 19 June representatives of 56 states belonging to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will gather in Vienna for the Annual Security Review Conference, which will focus on the evaluation of the changes in security and stability dimension from North America to Europe and Central Asia.
The Review Conference is considered as one of the most important annual events of the OSCE.
On the first day of the conference the working session will be presided by Permanent Representative of the Republic of Lithuania at the International Organizations in Vienna Rytis Paulauskas.
In the sessions on 19-20 June diplomats, representatives of political sciences, former and incumbent politicians will review the implementation of the OSCE Strategy adopted in Maastricht in 2003, in particular addressing the threats to security and stability in the twenty-first century, politico-military changes of security dimension in the recent years.
Participants of the conference will also discuss the interaction of the OSCE with other organisations regarding the activities in relation to early warning, conflict prevention and resolution, crisis and consequence management.
A special guest at the conference is former President of the Republic of Poland Aleksander Kwaśniewski.
The Annual Security Review Conference was established in 2002 by the OSCE Ministerial Council in Porto, a city in Portugal.
The goal of the conference is to enhance the dialogue on security and to review the work of the OSCE and its members, allowing to exchange opinions in regard to weapon control, confidence and security building measures, as well as promoting cooperation and information exchange between international and regional organisations, and institutions.
