IN VIENNA, LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER DISCUSSED THE BILATERAL COOPERATION ON ENERGY ISSUES AND EU AGENDA

During bilateral consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Austria on 9 April in Vienna, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė discussed energy security, bilateral cooperation in the area of energy and the most important issues on the European Union’s agenda.

The Vice-Minister met with Secretary-General of Austria’s Foreign Ministry Johannes Kyrle and Reinhard Mang, Secretary General of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Environment and Water Management.

On the subject of energy security and new energy projects, the Vice-Minister stressed that “when planning new energy projects in our region, particularly those related to nuclear power, the highest international safety and environmental protection standards must be strictly respected.”

According to Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė, regular exchange of information and comprehensive public information are key principles for cooperation.

The participants of the consultations discussed possibilities for deeper bilateral cooperation in coordinating positions on key EU agenda issues. The creation of the European External Action Service and the EU 2020 Strategy were discussed. Furthermore, opinions were also exchanged on possibilities for the development of science and innovations, and the promotion of closer business relations.
