IN THE RUN-UP TO THE LITHUANIAN EU PRESIDENCY, TIES BETWEEN VILNIUS AND ROME GROW STRONGER
On 27 May in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius held a meeting with the new Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonino and hailed the intensive development of the bilateral relationship, and cooperation in the run-up to the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. “Lithuania and Italy enjoy close and warm relations; recently we have strengthened them by signing the historic agreement on Villa Lituania. Moreover, we welcome Italy’s plans to appoint its expert to strengthen the team of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council,” Linkevičius said.
The Foreign Minister presented priorities for Lithuania’s EU Presidency and noted that he expected the Italian Prime Minister to attend the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius.
The meeting also discussed possibilities of strengthening defence cooperation.
