IN THE RUN-UP TO OPENING MEMBERSHIP TALKS WITH THE OECD, REPRESENTATIVES OF LITHUANIAN INSTITUTIONS DISCUSS IMPORTANT ISSUES OF COOPERATION WITH THIS ORGANIZATION
A meeting of the working group, which was set up in the run-up to opening membership talks with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), took place at the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry on 18 June. At the meeting, representatives of Lithuanian institutions discussed prospects for further cooperation with this organization.
On 31 May, the OECD Ministerial Council meeting announced long awaited decision on the next phase of the enlargement of the organisation - Lithuania was invited to open accession talks.
The main goal of the working group set up at the initiative of the Government is to coordinate activities aimed to effectively represent Lithuania’s interests in the OECD and to implement smoothly the Accession Roadmap for Lithuania when preparing to open accession talks with OECD. The OECD Secretariat is to draft the Accession Roadmap for Lithuania at an early date.
The working group discussed important issues of membership in different OECD committees, working groups and other bodies, the strengthening of the representation, upcoming meetings, and further preparations for opening accession talks.
