IN SLOVENIA, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER DISCUSSES LITHUANIA’S EU COUNCIL PRESIDENCY
On 26-27 July, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius visited Ljubljana to discuss the priorities of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU with the Slovenian State Secretary Igor Senčar.
The discussion has focused on the enlargement process of the European Union. Linkevičius has underlined the support of the Lithuanian Presidency of the Council of the EU to the candidate countries of the Balkans, the importance of regional cooperation in the Western Balkans, and Slovenia’s role as the leader in the region. At the same time, the Foreign Minister drew attention to the responsibility of candidate countries to meet the EU requirements, the ability to maintain political dialogue and flexibility in search of compromise.
Lithuania’s preparation for the Eastern Partnership Summit and its significance was also discussed at the meeting, as well as the development of bilateral relations between Lithuania and Slovenia.
During the visit, the Foreign Minister also met with Ambassadors of the European Union residing in Ljubljana and visited the city of Jesenice, where the Lithuanian national basketball team is to play at the EuroBasket 2013.
