IN RIGA, LITHUANIA’S FOREIGN MINISTER OPENS THE EXHIBITION “LITHUANIA. CULTURE AND HISTORY”, DEDICATED TO THE MILLENNIUM OF LITHUANIA

On 9 January in Riga at the Latvian War museum, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas and Minister of Culture Remigijus Vilkaitis opened the exhibition “Lithuania. Culture and History”, dedicated to the Millennium of Lithuania.

In 2009, Lithuania enters into the second millennium of its history. We have to take this perfect opportunity not only to look back and remember a historical path, which our nation and state have walked since the first inscriptions by chroniclers about them, but also to think about the future of our countries and nations, said Minister V.Ušackas.

Foreign diplomats residing in Riga and representatives from the Latvian state institutions took part in the opening of the exhibition.

The exhibition “Lithuania. Culture and History” tells an exhaustive visual story about the Millennium of Lithuania in the Latvian language. It includes most important events of the Lithuanian history and cultural highlights.  An information publication on the exhibition in the Latvian language appears along with the exhibition.

The exhibitions “Lithuania. Culture and History”, as part of the millennium program, were already exhibited in Estonia, Moldova and Finland in 2008. In 2009-2010, this movable exhibition will travel to Belarus, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, the U.S.A., Canada, Israel and Japan.

The exhibition was prepared by the Lithuanian Art Museum, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

The exhibition will be open at the Latvian War museum until 25 January.

You are kindly invited to visit the virtual exhibition on the website of the Lithuanian Art Museum.
