IN POLAND, POLITICAL DIRECTOR OF THE LITHUANIAN MFA PRESENTED PROPOSALS FOR CLOSER COOPERATION BETWEEN THE EU AND OSCE

At an informal meeting of political directors of European Union’s foreign ministries on 7-8 July in Lower Kazimierz, Poland, Political Director of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eitvydas Bajarūnas presented proposals for closer cooperation between the EU and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

Lithuania chairs the OSCE in 2011, and Poland assumed the six-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union on 1 July.

Political directors also discussed possibilities for the development of the EU’s common security and defense policy, the Middle East peace process and preparations for the Eastern Partnership Summit in Warsaw on 29-30 September.

The consultations of EU-U.S. political directors with a focus on the situation in the EU’s Southern neighborhood and in the Western Balkans also took place in Lower Kazimierz. ‪ ‪

The meeting of political directors of foreign ministries is traditionally held in the incoming EU Presidency at the beginning of the presidency.
