IN PARIS, FOREIGN VICE-MINISTER PRESENTS LITHUANIA’S COOPERATION WITH THE COMMUNITY OF FRENCH-SPEAKING COUNTRIES

At the 29th ministerial meeting of the International Organization of La Francophonie in Paris on 7 and 8 November, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Rolandas Kriščiūnas led the Lithuanian delegation and presented Lithuania’s intensifying cooperation with the community of French-speaking countries. The Foreign Vice-Minister expressed Lithuania’s support for the efforts of the International Organization of La Francophonie to contribute to crisis settlement, peace and security worldwide.

“Lithuania’s experience shows that in response to a crisis it is not less important to provide humanitarian, technical and financial assistance as it is to ensure physical security. When we provide assistance we strive to coordinate actions with international partners and address the most fundamental needs, no matter whether the recipients are Haitians who have suffered a natural disaster or the people of Tunisia enacting democratic reforms,” R.Kriščiūnas said.

The Lithuanian representative also thanked the International Organization of La Francophonie for helping Lithuania in the run-up to the EU Council Presidency in 2006-2013 and the French-speaking countries for supporting Lithuania’s bid for a non-member seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) in 2014-2015. The Foreign Vice-Minister stressed that Lithuania would spare no effort to make a solid and fruitful contribution to the UN Security Council and would implement its vision of a strong, renewed United Nations.
