IN PARIS FOREIGN MINISTER RAISED EU EXTERNAL ENERGY POLICY AND EASTERN NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICY ISSUES

On 3 June in Paris Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petras Vaitiekūnas discussed with Chairman of French-Baltic States Friendship Group of French Senate Denis Badré  and Deputy Chairman of the Group for Lithuania Jacques Legendre the priorities of upcoming French Presidency in the European Union, paying most attention to the European energy policy, EU energy security and EU Eastern neighbourhood. P. Vaitiekūnas agreed with French Senators to strengthen politic and economic cooperation between France and Lithuania and invited D. Badré and J. Legendre to visit Lithuania. The intention to organize a French-Baltic conference in the French Senate in 2009 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Baltic Way was also discussed at the meeting.

The Head of Lithuanian Diplomacy took part in the business dinner organized at the initiative of French Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Bernard Kouchner. At the dinner French Minister presented the priorities of French Presidency in the European Union in the second part of 2008. During the dinner P. Vaitiekūnas addressed issues important to Lithuania during this Presidency.

Foreign ministers of Bulgaria, Denmark, Estonia, Cyprus, Portugal, Romania and Hungary also took part in the dinner.
