In Munich, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister Landsbergis met with the Japanese Foreign Minister

At the Munich Security Conference, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis met with his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi.

“Russia is not only an aggressive but also a dangerous neighbour, threatening to use guns and sowing death not only on the European continent. Japan is already a strategic trading partner of Lithuania. Still, it is time to strengthen the partnership in the security field,” the head of Lithuania’s diplomacy said at the meeting.

Landsbergis also thanked Japan’s head of diplomacy for his principled stance on sanctions against Russia. “Maintaining economic pressure on Russia will help to bring about Ukraine’s victory,” Landsbergis said at the meeting.

Japan is currently chairing the G7 format and has pledged to continue mobilising the international community’s support for Ukraine.

The Foreign Ministers of Lithuania and Japan also discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, research and other areas.
