In Moldova, Linkevičius discusses challenges of European integration

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius was visiting Moldova on 7 November. In meetings with Moldova’s political leaders, Lithuania’s Foreign Minister discussed challenges of European integration, especially at a time when the country’s political parties are seeking to form a coalition government.

“It is important that all political forces, which seek to pursue beneficial reforms, should negotiate in an atmosphere of trust and consolidate forces for continuing the course towards European integration,” said Linkevičius.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister noted that it was very important to preserve the goals that had been achieved on the path towards European integration, so the country’s political forces had to demonstrate political maturity and responsibility.

“Lithuania’s experience shows that the implementation of reforms on the path towards European integration and joining the country’s political forces were an essential precondition for creating a prosperous state the people of Moldova would be proud of,” said Linkevičius in the meetings.

Lithuania’s Foreign Minister met with the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, the leader of the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu, the President of the Liberal Democratic Party Valeriu Streleţ and other leaders of this Parliamentary Faction, and the Chairman of the European People’s Party of Moldova Iurie Leancă.
