IN LISBON, LITHUANIAN AND LATVIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSSED ISSUES OF INTERNATIONAL POLICY AND BILATERAL RELATIONS

On 19 November at the NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government in Lisbon, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis met with recently appointed new Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia Ģirts Kristovskis and discuss with him international politics and bilateral relations.

The Ministers spoke about the agendas of heads of NATO and the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) meetings, work of the European Union’s Foreign Affairs Council, activities in Afghanistan and relations with neighbouring countries.

Minister G.Kristovskis expressed support to Minister A.Ažubalis as incoming Chairman-in-Office of the OSCE.

The Ministers agreed to coordinate the 20th anniversary celebrations of international recognition of Latvia and Lithuania. The celebrations are planned for next year.

The interlocutors also highlighted the determination to promote bilateral relations. The Ministers agreed to appoint their senior representatives for the preparation of a report on specific areas of intensified bilateral cooperation.

Minister A.Ažubalis invited his counterpart to visit Lithuania in the short run.
