In Kyiv, Budrys opened branch of the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency, which will implement support projects

On 19 September, the Minister-designate of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Kęstutis Budrys, officially opened an office of the Lithuanian Central Project Management Agency in Kyiv.

According to the Minister, this step marks a new stage in the partnership between Lithuania and Ukraine, focused on the reconstruction of the country, strengthening democratic institutions, and supporting the process of European integration.

“Today, we know very clearly why we are here and why we are doing this. We believe in Ukraine. We believe in your strong state and its creative people, whom we value as our good and reliable friends. Lithuania itself has gone a long way towards European integration and is well aware of the great benefits that this has brought to us. We are not only ready to share our experiences, but also to learn from you – strong and courageous people of Ukraine," said Budrys.

The main task of the office in Kyiv is to strengthen management and efficiency of Ukraine’s recovery and reconstruction projects, increase the visibility of Lithuania and the agency, and explore new opportunities for further cooperation between Lithuania and Ukraine.

The agency has implemented projects and programmes in Ukraine since 2017. Following Russia's full-scale invasion, Lithuania was one of the first countries in Ukraine to begin reconstruction work with the help of the agency. Education, rehabilitation, energy, demining, and institution building are the areas that the agency focuses on when implementing projects funded by Lithuania, the European Union, and other donors.

The agency is currently implementing programmes and projects in Ukraine for more than €220 million. Overall, the Lithuanian authorities have provided support worth €1.55 billion to Ukraine since 2022.

At the opening event of the office, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Zhytomyr City Municipality and the State Agency for Reconstruction and Development of Infrastructure of Ukraine on the second stage of implementation of the 'Future School for Ukraine' project.
