IN KALININGRAD, LITHUANIAN AND RUSSIAN FOREIGN MINISTERS DISCUSS ECONOMIC AND CROSS-BORDER COOPERATION, ENERGY ISSUES

On 5 June in Kaliningrad, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the economic and cross-border cooperation between the countries, energy issues and prospects for tourism promotion. In Kaliningrad, Linkevičius will participate in the Ministerial Session of the Council of the Baltic Sea States.

The leaders of the Lithuanian and Russian diplomacy have met for the second time this year. Their first bilateral meeting was held on the margins of the Munich Security Conference in February.

“In February, we agreed with the Russian Foreign Minister to intensify cooperation between our countries. I believe that in order to enjoy our constructive relations, we can neither stop working, nor should we pause at the highest levels, thus abiding by the cooperative principle. Every meeting helps us to gain a better understanding of the other side and to aim at reaping the benefits of cooperation between our countries,” Linkevičius stressed.

The Lithuanian Foreign Minister visited Tolminkiemis on the way to Kaliningrad. Linkevičius laid a wreath of flowers on the grave of Kristijonas Donelaitis and visited the museum named after the writer. According to the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Lithuania successfully cooperates both with Russians and Germans in preparation for the 300th birth anniversary of Kristijonas Donelaitis in 2014.

Lithuania and the Kaliningrad region have signed a plan to mark the birth anniversary of Kristijonas Donelaitis. The countries started to implement this plan in 2012.
