IN ISTANBUL, LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER WILL PARTICIPATE IN THE SESSION OF THE COMMITTEE OF MINISTERS OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE
On 10-11 May in Istanbul, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis will participate in the 121st Session of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. During the session, this year’s Chairman-in-Office of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) A.Ažubalis will review the interaction between the OSCE and the Council of Europe.
Representatives from 47 member states of the Council of Europe will attend the Session of the Committee of Ministers to discuss issues of the ongoing reform of the organization in general and of the European Court of Human Rights separately.Participants of the Session will also discuss the report on the challenge of multicultural societies in European countries by the Group of Eminent Persons, which is chaired by former German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, and will discuss the cooperation between the Council of Europe and neighbouring countries.
Besides, bilateral meetings of Minister A.Ažubalis and Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland, foreign ministers of Croatia, Turkey and Ukraine are planned in Istanbul.
At the end of the event, Ukraine will take over the six-month Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe from Turkey.
